   70歳になった老人は、子に背負われて楢山に捨てられなければならない。そんな山奥の寒村の掟に従い、喜んで神に召されようとする信心深い母（坂本スミ子）と、哀しみとともに母を山へ連れていく息子（緒形拳）。2人の姿を通し、自然への畏怖や人間との共生、そして受け入れざるを得ない人間の業や運命といったものを、アクの強い演出で描ききった巨匠・今村昌平監督の名作。
   中央公論新人賞に輝いた深沢七郎のデビュー小説、2度目の映画化だが、木下恵介監督による前作がオールセットの舞台劇のような様式美で描かれていたのと正反対に、こちらはあくまでも写実的だ。カンヌ国際映画祭でグランプリを受賞するなど、その世界観は海外でも驚異の眼で迎え入れられた。（的田也寸志）

こないだ知り合いに薦めたら「全然面白くなかった」といわれがっかりしました。
そりゃあ面白い話じゃありません、歴史の隅に追いやられた暗い過去に向き合う作品です。
でもこれが現実として起こっていた、それほどまで民は貧しく、小さな田畑にかじりついて生きていたのです。
芋を盗んだ女を家族もろとも生き埋めにする、村の掟は絶対。
そんな厳しさに怖さより哀れを感じ、結束しなければこの生活を維持出来ないという覚悟が感じられます。
山に行った日、雪が降り始めて緒方拳が一旦戻るシーンは「作り過ぎ」と思う人がいるかもしれませんが私にはとても良かったです。

木下版がフルセットで、色彩美豊かに
劇っぽく作った作品だったが
今村版は、人間の業や食、性、喜びや哀しみが
「本能のまま」出ている映画である。

母親を山へ連れていくまでに起こる出来事は
現代社会とは全く違う、村独特の価値観には
今の若い人が見たらショックを受けるだろう。
口減らしの為の親を捨てる。次男は嫁を貰えずに犬を犯す。
餓えの為に泥棒をした一家に「根絶やし」の制裁を加える等
村だけの正義、村だけの価値観で物語が進むので
見ている方は驚きの連続。

この映画が「際もの」にならなかったのは
母と子の愛が最後に描かれるからである。
死を素直に受け入れる母が、息子を気づかう気持ちと
雪が降り思わず戻ってしまう子に
涙が止まらなかった。

ただ、!今村作品のどれもそうだが
えげつない描写や、性描写のしつこさから
好き嫌いがハッキリ別れると思う。

僕は皆さんのように良い文章（レビュー）は書けないけれど、この映画を鑑賞して
思った事を書いてみます。

映画自体はまぎれもなく日本映画界傑作の中の一つであると思いますし、
主演の緒形拳をはじめとする俳優の名演に惹きつけられると思います。
貧しさと子孫を残していく為に姥捨てという行為が昔、行われていた事、
進んで山へ行こうとする母親とそれに葛藤する息子の心情もひしひしと
伝わってきます。

寒村の貧しい村に生きる人間の生き様と貪欲さ、性などを綺麗に見せず
有りのままであろう姿で描写されています。またラストも当然ハッピーエンドではなく
切なさが残る終わり方です。エロティックなシーンがあるので子供とは見れない作品で
すが、この飽食時代に育った自分を含めた世代にとっては豊かさ貧しさを再考させてく
れる映画であると思います。
