   およそ10分間しか自分の記憶を保てなくなった男レナード（ガイ・ピアース）。彼は妻をレイプし殺害した犯人を捜し出すため、ポラロイド写真を撮り、メモを取り、大事なことは身体に入れ墨で書き記すなどして必死の行動を始める…と、ストーリーを書いてしまうとこうなるのだが、実際はドラマの展開を逆転させ、いわば連続TVドラマの最終回からいきなり見せられ、ラストが第1話に相当してしまうという、ユニークな構造で推し進めていく新進クリストファー・ノーラン監督によるクライム・サスペンス。
   まるでコロンブスの卵のようなアイデアの勝利がきわだった作品だが、予備知識なしで接すると何が何だかわからなくなる危険性も大いにあり。記憶や思い出（＝メメント）というものの不確かさを痛感させる心理学論的おもしろさが楽しめる。（的田也寸志）

　とりあえず、こりまくった演出と緻密な仕掛けに拍手を送りたい。
　とても実験的な作品である、下手なやつが作ったらとても退屈な一本に成り下がってしまうだろう。
　物語のラストからさか上ってみていくという異例の構成。最後に待ち受ける真実にはきっと誰もが驚くだろう。

レンタルで借りてから購入を考えてもいい作品です。
なぜなら初回より二度目に観るほう、三度目に観たほうが謎が解ける。
映画に答えが用意されておらず、どうなったか分からないといった類ではなく、
学生の頃、現代国語でこの文章を正しい順に並べろといった問題のように、
パズルをしながら解いていくサスペンスです。
キーは、ポラロイド写真の書き込みと刺青の書き込み。
登場人物たちが嘘もつくので、書き込みがしてあるか、余白のままであるかが、
時間の推移をたどるヒントになります。
ガイ・ピアーズはあまり表情がなく、
登場人物たちも食わせ者が多い。どの人が味方か分かりません。
鑑賞というより、ゲームといった作品です。

目を開けてそこに知っている世界が広がっている幸福。
この物語はその幸福に浸れない男の挽歌だ。
作中で謳われるは妻を目の前で殺された男の悲しいふくしゅう劇。
彼の内に停滞し続け消える事の無いその行動理念は彼の唯一の存在理由。

救いの概念とは個人の解釈の中にのみ内在し共通した観念の存在し得ない限りなく抽象的で流動的なものだ。
傍観者は彼の答えに何を思うだろう。
