近年、大坂昌彦らと結成したカルテット・EQ等で活躍中の小池修が単身ニューヨークで録音した作品。面子はジョーイ・カルデラッツォ（Pf）、デヴィッド・フィンク（B）、ルイス・ナッシュ（Ds)というツワモノ揃い。
１、３、４、５のスタンダードに２、６、７の小池のオリジナルを加えた４ビート中心のシンプルなジャズ。NYの猛者たちを相手に堂々と野太いテナーを吹きまくる小池のプレイが印象的。
中でも「You　Don't　Know What　Love　Is」のアップテンポな４ビートの演奏はなかなか見事で、意外とありそうでなかったアレンジかもしれない。小池の熱いプレイに触発されたのか、続くカルデラッツォがこれまたエッジの効いた素晴らしいソロを展開する。ワンコーラスという限られた枠の中で、歌心あふれるフレーズを要所要所で決め、語るべきことを簡潔に語り、曲の雰囲気を一層盛り上げている。カルデラッツォのソロのベストプレイの一つとして挙げたい。

BRAZILIAN CAFE-MENTHOLの6曲目、You Don’t Know What Love isを聞いて、そのエッジの利いたストレート・ジャズが気に入ってこのCDも買ってしまった。小池修のテナーはじめ、アドリブの応酬が私の大好きなCharlie Parkerを彷彿させる、と言っては言い過ぎか。
