死んでしまった少女が、今さらながらに生を謳歌していくなか、自分自身を発見していくというメルヘンチックなファンタジー。相米慎二監督作品としてはめずらしくサラリとした作風と演出を施しているのが興味深く、そのことで新人・牧瀬の初々しさが一段と引き立つことになった。彼女は本作で、その年の新人賞を総なめ。劇中、ヴォーカルを代えて幾度も流れる「帰れない二人」の音楽効果も抜群。特にミュージカル仕立てのクライマックスは圧巻であるとともに“帰れない二人”のせつなさが見事に表現されている。（的田也寸志）
