これは、“クラシック・ヴァイオリン音楽”というジャンルの王道を行くアルバム。ファンはまず、才能豊かな若き演奏家の登場を喜ぶことができる。事実、今年21歳のヒラリー・ハーンはとてもいい。十分に巧く、フレーズは表現に富むが“あざとさ”とは無縁。率直な歌心はしかし音楽のつぼを常にしっかりと押さえて聴かせる(オケがもっとよかったら……と思うほど)。将来が楽しみ。次に物語。バーバーは、ハーンと同じカーティス音楽院出身。作曲当時、この作品は委嘱者に気に入られず演奏不能論議となり、同音楽院で決着がつけられた。ハーンはその“一家の伝説”に親しんでいた。最後に新しさ。メイヤーの協奏曲は1999年の作品。“クラシック・ヴァイオリン音楽”にも新しいレパートリーが必要なのだから。その作風は折衷的で、保守的なバーバー作品とともに伝統的なヴァイオリン音楽の“型”を安心して堪能できる。このアルバムは“クラシック・ヴァイオリン音楽”というジャンルの王道なのだ。 (伊藤祐二) --- 2000年10月号
