3.0 out of 5 stars リマスターが裏目に, 2003/10/23
セル最晩年の傑作として、演奏、録音ともに優れたものだった。しかしリマスターによる音質の向上を謳うこの最新の国内盤は、そのリマスターが裏目に出て、音楽を楽しむことができない。具体的にいうと、直接音主体で残響が著しく乏しくなり、結果として狭いスタジオでの演奏のような、スケールの小さい響きとなってしまっている。この名演がこんな音質でしか聞けなくなってしまったことは、悔やんでも悔やみきれない。

この演奏を聞きたいなら、以前にリリースされた国内盤か、海外盤を買われることを強くお勧めしたい。

実は１回買って手放し、今回、再び購入しました。なぜ１回手放したかと申しますと、購入直後にショルティの指環全曲盤を購入し、管弦楽だけであり、あまり色気の感じないこのＣＤに興味が薄らいだため、そして今回買い直した理由は、それでもなお指環演奏の模範であり、数々のライトモチーフを確認できる１枚ものがほしくなったからです。現在、数多くの指環に関する管弦楽曲集が出ておりますが、色気がないぶん、変な脚色やデフォルメがなく、音楽の本質をまっすぐに聴けると思います。様々な指環を聴いてみると、そうした脚色やいわゆる個性を求め、再びこのＣＤを遠ざけてしまうおそれもあるかもしれませんが、今回は手放さずに持っていたいと思いました。「魔の炎の音楽」の冒頭の重量感と終幕の輝かしさ、「夜明けとジークフリートのラインへの旅」の統率力は、或る意味で極めて感動的に思います。

手許にＬＰ版の同録音を持っているが、他の方も指摘されているように確かに残響が減ってしょぼくなっている。特に「森のささやき」などでは、鳥のオノマトペをやる木管の空気感が非常に効果的だったのだが、その辺もレコードのほうが良い。
しかしこれはＣＤ全般に言えることで、デジタル化することによって真っ先に「被害」を受けるのは残響と倍音なのである。私はレオンハルトがハルモニア･ムンディで出したバッハのパルティータについても同様な指摘をしたが、残響には非常に高い周波数の成分が含まれており、それはサンプリングレートによって容赦なく切り捨てられる。楽器の倍音、つまり同様に高い周波数成分もカットされる。結局、「空気感」や「音色」といった、音楽にとって極めて重要な要素をスポイルしているのが民生レベルのデジタル技術である、と言っても過言でない。個人的には、サンプリングレートが９６ｋＨｚ以下では使い物にならないと思っている。
