泥棒のシーンもちゃんと描かれているが、これまでのルパンを切り貼りしたような感じがするのは気のせいではないだろう。特にラストはカリオストロの城を思い出さずにわいられない。

しかし奇を衒おうとして失敗するTVスペシャルにおいて、こういうオーソドックスな話は非常に安心して見ることが出来る。昔からのファン（もちろん私もそうだが）にとっては当たり前すぎて物足りないかもしれないが、TVスペシャルからルパンを見るような人には最適な話だろう。

　現実味に欠けている点、やや定型的過ぎる点が残念で、個人的にはファンを惹き付けるだけの魅力は感じませんでした。全体的にマニアックなところが少ない点はテレビシリーズ共通の特徴で、これは大衆的な作品に仕上げる意味で妥当な事ではあるので、これを加味すれば納得出来る所でしょうか。せっかくロマノフ王朝を登場させたのならば、歴史的･文化的背景もふんだんに盛り込んで質の高い作品にして欲しかったというのが正直な気持ちです。全くの余談ですが、同じロマノフ王朝を扱うアニメ作品として、名探偵コナンの『世紀末の魔術師』の方が質が洗練されていました。
　ルパンならではの凝り方があまり見受けられなかったのは残念ですが、所々にルパンらしい笑いは散りばめられています。金塊を手にするまでのエピソードと、敵役との一件、展開が二転三転する点では物語の充実度は高そうです。

70年代のB級映画を見ているような、安っぽい（いい意味で！）世界が、壮大なスケールで描かれている。愉快痛快娯楽作品。
大悪党・ラスプートンがド迫力。最期の一言のお遊びはナイス。

出崎統・柏原寛司コンビはこの作品が最後（正確には「ハリマオ」もこの二人だが、脚本は共同）。以降は演出・脚本は毎作ごとに代わるようになっていくが、「オトナの味付け」は薄れていき、マニアック（ルパンマニアorアニメマニア向け）になっていったように思う。またこの二人で作られた作品を見てみたいものだ。
