ファイラデルフィアのもたらした名盤です。メロディがよく、アレンジも綺麗目で、ソウルに馴染みの薄い方も非常に聴きやすいのではないかと思います。「裏切り者のテーマ」イントロのギターとピアノはやはり圧巻で、オージェイズの抱える「切なさ」みたいなものがよく出ていると思います。明暗、硬軟、バランスよく配置されているのでオススメの作品です。

いわゆる「フィリー・ソウル」の代表的作品。今の耳で聴くと、ダサさと紙一重のアレンジが何とも言えず格好いい。タイトル曲2は、誰もが聞き覚えのあるソウル史上に残る名曲。サビの直前のキメが癖になる。

他にも6、10はシングルで切られ、中ヒットを記録した佳曲。モータウン・ソウルやスライのやってたファンクなどの要素が微妙に混じりあい、後のディスコ・サウンドにつながる気配もある。そういう意味では、この時代にしか出来なかった音楽かな、という気もする。しかし、彼らのヴォーカルにあるソウルは、今もこれからも不変だろう。名作。

僕の中のフィリー・ソウルのイメージはといえば「ラ・ラ・ミーンズ・アイ・ラブ・ユー」であって、あの切なく、繊細で、キレイなソウル・ミュージックを聞きたくて、この有名なアルバムを買いましたが。予想を裏切り、あ、暑苦しい・・・。タキシードを着ているような礼儀正しい佇まいの音楽ですが、シャツの内側は熱気でムンムンしているような・・・。最初は苦手でした。ところが、あるときオーティス・レディングの後に聞いたら、ピーンと来てしまいました。オージェイズの場合、この声の熱さ（暑さ？）こそが魅力だったんですね。最近このような男臭さをこよなく欲しがってしまいます。
