まずこんな曲が弾けるピアニストが凄いです。そしてこんな曲を作れるリゲティさんが凄いですね。左手と右手完全に別のリズム＆メロディでコード感も感じられない音階、はじめて聞いたときはかなり衝撃的でした。これは完全に個人的な感想ですがプログレっぽい印象も受けました。プログレッシヴクラシックと勝手に命名させてもらいたいくらいです。聞いたことの無い人は是非聞いてみてください。

練習曲集は、1980年代以降に書かれたバリバリの現代音楽。アフリカ音楽にヒントを得たポリリズムによる技法が駆使されていて、他に類をみない響きが聞こえる。しかし、技法だけでなく楽想がすばらしく、純音楽的ななかにすばらしい響きが。ドビュッシーやバルトークのピアノが好きな人なら、文句なくおすすめ。一方、ムジカ・リチュルカータは、作曲年代が練習曲より古い音楽なので、かなり違う。少ない音の中に、躍動感を持ったダイナミクスがあって、練習曲とは違った魅力がある。エマールの演奏は冴え渡り、リゲティの素晴らしさが堪能できる素晴らしいCD。

調性はないが、無調でもないとはよく言われていますが、その通りでそこはリゲティならではという感じです。それでいて皆曲になっていてそれぞれ全く違う個性を持っているところが魅力です。第一巻「虹」は唯一コード進行があり、曲調は妖しく幻想的。「ワルシャワの秋」は激しく強い緊張感と戦慄すら感じる作品。第二巻「悲しい鳩」は左右の手で使う音階が半音ずれている。ゆらゆらきらめいているような印象。「無限の円柱」は高速で強い和音が連打されて実にうるさい。そして圧巻といわれる「悪魔の階段」。最後凄まじい音量で最高音と最低音が弾かれる瞬間はすごい。ムジカ・リチェルカータは各曲で使える音を制限しリゲティが作曲した曲集。色彩感に乏しく、潤いのない曲調です。
