キーワードはニュー・オリンズ！グループ名通り、ボ・ディドリーとDr.ジョンのガンボをベースにしたバンドですが、そんなこと知らなくったって理屈抜きに楽しめるサウンドです。ほとんどの曲がライヴの定番であり代表曲ですが、オススメはハードな＜ダイナマイトに火をつけろ＞、ピアノが印象的な＜魚ごっこ＞、胸にしみるバラード＜夢の中＞。間違いなく傑作です！

ボ・ディドリーのボ、ガンボスープのガンボでボ・ガンボス。New Orleansの音楽は、Dr.JOHN,NEVILLE BROTHERSなどブードゥーのリズムとブギウギピアノが心地よい。そんな音楽にあこがれて出来たバンド。それだけに底抜けに明るく、まるでマルディ・グラのカーニバルのようなお祭り騒ぎ。ボーカル　故どんど氏　の存在感は彼の独特の歌詞世界からもうかがえます。ピアノのキョン氏はだれもが憧れるピアノの名手。彼のピアノがコロコロ転がる　魚ごっこ

ハモンドが美しい　夢の中。音楽性、演奏力とも日本には珍しいバンド。　今聞くとついつい感傷的になってしまう。どんとさん安らかに。

ある日NHKのテレビで「魚ごっこ」という歌を化粧をした男が独特な声で歌っていた。後でそのバンドが「ボ・ガンボス」だと知った。清志郎とどんとは日本の元祖ビジュアル系です。「魚ごっこ」の不条理な歌詞とキョンの美しくラグなピアノにまず"やられた"のが最初ですが、Bo Diddleyとの共演が楽しい「ずんずん」も、そして振り向いてもらっては困る女性へのオマージュ「見返り不美人」、会社や学校にムシャクシャしたら聴いてほしい「ダイナマイトに火をつけろ」、キョンがVo.を担当して鍵盤が弾けてとんでっちゃいそうな「ワクワク」。「助けて！フラワーマン」「泥んこ道を二人」もノリがよく元気を与えてくれますが、「トンネル抜けて」「夢の中」はちょっと切ないスローな感じで夕暮れか夜のドライブにお似合いの曲たちです。このCDは日本のR&Bにおける名盤の一つに数えられるのでは?と思います。嬉しいことに2005年1月26日には幻のビデオ名作「宇宙サウンド」「HOT HOT GUMBO」のDVD再発売も決まったようで、やはりどんとの魂はズンズンと永遠に我々の内側で響きまくっているようです。
