以前、キングレコードからリリースされていたミュンヘン・ライブの「マイスタージンガー」を聴くと良く解るのだが、クナッパーツブッシュは、一見、無骨なようでいて、実は何のことはない音型にさえ、豊かなニュアンスを込めてしまえる指揮者だったと思う。

この「パルジファル」は、そのクナッパーツブッシュの偉大な達成とも言うべきもの。あまりにも有名な録音だけに、演奏については今更言う事もないが、このオペラと、そしてこの指揮者を知る上で必聴のディスク、とだけはいえるだろう。

終幕の幕切れの数分間、これほどの演奏を他に聴いたことは、未だに無い。

ワーグナー指揮者であるクナッパーツブッシュには名盤が多数あるが
このパルジファルはその決定打ともいえる。
音には重厚さがあるが初心者にも入りやすい。
ワーグナーを聞こうとするリスナーはこの盤を避けて通れない。

何もパルジファルについて知らなくとも、一度聞けば
このような言葉がすぐに浮かんでくるだろう。
