セッションギターリストとして名前を馳せているデイビッドＴウォーカーのファースト。マリーナショウ、マーヴィンゲイ、キャロルキングなど多くのアルバムに参加しているこのギターリストは名バッキングプレイヤーとしてのイメージが強いです。僕もかなりコピーして研究しました。しかしリーダー作を聞けばソリストとしてもすばらしいことがわかります。このアルバムのとき彼の年齢は２８歳、タイム感、オクターブ奏法、コードソロと、とても２０代とは思えない独自の空間を作り上げています。リズムが非常に多彩なのがこの作品の聞き所。変拍子、４ビート、８ビート、シャフル、ボサ、などなど、全編インスト。彼のギターはマニアならずとも必見です。

本作('68年作)のCD化を耳にした時にはその耳を疑い、店頭で目にした時には卒倒しそうになりました(^^;
確かに中古アナログ店を根気よく探せば見つかる可能性はありますが、良質のものにはなかなか出会えません。そんな折、デヴィッド T.ウォーカー(g)その人の初期作品がまとめて3作(1stから3rd)もCD化されたのですから、ファンとしては上記の表現も大袈裟ではないと思います。
既にセッション・ギタリストとして名を成していたデヴィッド T.ウォーカーですが、流石にソロ作品という事で、誰に気を使う訳でもなく、その素晴らしいテクを思う存分披露してくれています。
実際のところ、あの"えもいわれぬ艶っぽい"プレー、思わず"ゾクリ"とくるフレーズというのは、もう少し後の作品の方がその含有度(表出度)が高い訳ですが、それを差し引いたとしても、充分にお釣りのくる作品です。
＃バカラック作品を2品を取り上げる辺り、多少リスナー受け(?)も考慮?
今なお現役で様々なアーティストの傍らで絶対的な安定感/安心感を備えつつグルーヴする氏のギター。そろそろ新作ソロでも出してください。お願いします m(__)m
