多くの方がこれを聴いて、すごい！！という感想を持たれていますが、本当にすごい！！としか言いようのない脳天を直撃する衝撃があります。暗黒大陸じゃがたらとしての初のアルバム(82年作)は、彼らが生来持つ強い主張と、アフロ・ファンクを完全に自分の感覚の一部としたことが見事に結実し、唯一無二のじゃがたらサウンドとしか言いようのない熱量が放射しまくる大傑作となっています。ここには本物のファンクがありながら、一方でしっかりと咀嚼され肉体化された独自ファンクでもあるという事実、だからこんなにもオリジナリティに溢れているんだと思います。これはもうサン・ラの「ニュー･クリアウォー」などに通じる超絶的なスピリチャル・ミュージックでもあり、ただカッコイイというのを通り超えて、非常にリスナーの心と体に訴えかけてくるような切実さがあります。アフロ・ファンクの精神性を理解する上でこれ以上の良いサンプルはないとすら思います。

２０年以上前の作品なんだけど、古さが全く感じられない。曲名の付け方ひとつでこのバンドのセンスがわかるってもんでしょ？１曲目の「でも・デモ・DEMO」ではボーカルの江戸アケミの「あんた気にくわない！」の一言で始まってその後は演奏だけで、暫くしてから鋭いメッセージの連続。この落差がたまらない。言葉の韻のふみ方も上手く終始圧倒、感心させられる。当時聴いたときは繰り返されるアフロビートに「何じゃこりゃ~」と松田優作張りに驚いたけど、今聴いても凄いしこれほどのレベルの音楽って、そう巡り会えるもんじゃない。パンクな人もそうでない人も一度は聴いておいた方が良いと思う名盤中の名盤です。人生観変わりますから。大袈裟じゃなくて本当に…。

江戸アケミほどファンクの本質を理解している日本人はいないのではないかと思う。
安易に考えればナインスのコードで１６ビートをギターでカッティングすればファンクになるのだが
決してそんな安易さはない。江戸アケミは他人が知らないようなコードを研究していたとも聞くがそんなことだけではない深さを感じさせる。
歌詞の中にある「ファンキーが好きだ何て笑わせるんじゃない」という言葉が今でも好きだ。
