ショパンの色々な分野の曲集の中でも、
ノクターンで気に入った演奏に巡り会えることは少ない。
その中でこのルービンシュタイン盤は２０年以上聞き続けている大のお気に入りです。
勿論最初の頃はＬＰで、ＣＤ化されてすぐに購入しましたが、
ディジタル・リマスターということで、すぐに買い換えてしまいました。
ルービンシュタインの肩の力の抜けたおおらかな音は、
いつもリラックスして聞くことができますし、
テンポ・ルバートの取り方もとても洒落ていて気分がいいです。

どちらかというとvol２の方が好きですが、このvol１もお薦めです。
一番の名演は１番変ロ短調です。感情は極力抑えたような演奏ですが、
なんと表情豊かに響くことでしょう。
必ず気に入られること間違いない演奏です。
有名な２番変ホ長調も、派手さを抑えたリラックスした演奏が楽しめます。
７番嬰ハ短調と８番変ニ長調もいぶし銀のような深い感動を備えたえんそうです。

このルービンシュタインの演奏は録音が古くて、
今ならもっとピアノらしいピアノの響きを収録したものもあるでしょうが、
何ものにも代え難いものがあります。
ピリスやポリーニの新盤購入をも躊躇させるだけの存在感が私にはあります。
本当にお薦めのアルバムです。

初めてショパンのノクターンを聴いたのが彼のこのLPでした。
黒いLP盤の色と、33回転半のターンテーブルが回るスピードと、
漆黒の夜を思わせるゆったりとした演奏とに、思春期の私はすっかり酔いしれてしまいました。
一体何度繰り返し針を落としたことでしょう。
その後、何人のピアニストのノクターンを聴いても物足りなさが残って満足できません。刷り込み現象といえばその通りなのですが。
録音後、もう30年は経つのではないでしょうか。
アナログ録音のまろやかな音質が、おそらくノクターンのメロディに合っているのだと思います。
本当に何度聴いても飽きません。
通俗的な逸話も残る人ですが、そういう意味ではルービンシュタインは偉大な名演奏家と言うより、偉大なエンターティナーと言えるかもしれません。

今日多くの演奏家がいますが、ショパンについてはルービンシュタインを選んでおけばまず間違いはありません。ノクターンは他の演奏家でも素晴らしい録音がありますが、やはりルービンシュタインに回帰してしまいます。ただ、特別何が良いのか説明できないのですが。
