懐かしくなり久々に聴いてみたが、洋楽ばかり聴いていた耳にも、10年経った今でもほとんど古臭さを感じない。
特にoverdoseからFACES PLACESへの展開は秀逸。97年当時、J-POPでこれ程の音の厚みとコアな要素を含みながら、それでも一般ウケするような曲調に仕上げたことは驚きだ。M6の導入のグルーブ感は今聴いても新しい。
セールス狙いの作品とも思われがちだが、随所にインストゥルメンタルを入れたり、アルバム全体の曲調も暗めに抑えられていたりと意外にもストイック。シングル曲をアレンジしたのは作り手として賢い判断だったと評価できる。
これ以降ボーカルの質は徐々に下がっていくが、サウンドメイキング、ミキシング、演奏と全てが驚異的な高みで結実しており、おそらく何かひとつ欠けてもこの作品は生まれなかっただろうと思う。
現在の「全部同じに聴こえるJ-POP」で満足している世代に、せめても聴かせてやりたいとすら感じる。
改めて小室哲哉を見直した１枚。90年代の名盤だろう。

切ないコード展開を見せたり、ローテンポな曲があったりと、
全体的にダウナーで落ち着いた表情を見せている今作。
前作と同様、時代を超えた今聞いても、非情にハイレベルなデキになっている。

「FACE」「FACES PLACES」「Can't〜」あたりは、誰でも知っている名曲だろう。
一部のシングル曲は、シングルバージョンと別のアレンジで収録されるという、
小室アルバム独特の趣向が凝らされている。
当然それらの曲はシングルバージョンとは聴き応えが違うが、無理のないアレンジが凝らされて
いるため、新鮮でありながら安心して聴くことができて面白い。

アルバム曲のデキが良いのがglobeの隠れた特徴でもあり、それは今作でも如何なく発揮されている。
初めて曲を聴く人には、どれがシングル曲でどれがアルバム曲か分からないぐらいだろう。

ボーカル、ラップ、キーボードの腕前は、各々言わずもがな最上級である。
どのアーティストにも真似しようもない、絶大な独創力を持っている。

とにかく雰囲気の良い1枚。90年代を代表する傑作である。

どこに向かって、
何を信じて歩いていけばよいのかわからず、
迷い、悩み、彷徨い続ける現代人の閉塞感を、
これほどまで見事に歌い上げた曲はない。
「FREEDOM」を進化させ、
さらに壮大な曲に仕上げた、完成度の高い曲。

出だしの部分を聴いただけで、
涙が出てくるような切なさもあり、
そうした中でKEIKOが泣き叫ぶように、
高音で歌っていくのが、
まさに今の社会を象徴しているというか。
現代社会の映し鏡のような見事な曲です。
