そんなタイトルが一番似合った作品じゃないだろうか

レディオヘッドと言えば、一般的にはOKコンピューター。その前後の極に振り切れたアルバムとして、ベンズとKID Aが挙がるのが普通。

しかしこのアムニージアックという「忘れられた」アルバムも本当に素晴らしい作品だ。よくロック寄りKID Aなどと言われるが、そんなアホなコピーが付けられる凡作では決してない。

まずPyramidSongとKnivesOutの両シングルカットが凄い。
前者は(個人的にレディヘベストトラックと思っている)なんと不可逆性リズムを使用したバラード。静謐の中で誇大妄想に耽るヨーク。
後者は部分転調を上手く利用したこれまた雰囲気ある曲。カニバリズムについてらしい。

その他、1、3、10あたりの「KID AよりKID Aっぽい」ノイズナンバーや、隙間を埋めるジャズの影響を伺わせる曲と、聞き所はたっぷり。
10はライブでのピアノverも必聴。

レディオヘッドは好きでもこのアルバムを聞き込んでいない方は意外と多く、本当にもったいないと思う。

01年リリースの5th。前作と同時期にレコーディングされた楽曲により構成された、Kid Aの双生児的作品。しかしながらその音の質感はあまりに前作と対照的。Kid Aが虚無的な宇宙において響く音だとすれば、今作は春の澱みに沈む音。暗さの中に不可思議な温もりが感じ取れ、それが非常に心地良い。ピアノを始めとするストリングスが、気怠げなトムのボーカルと絡み合いながら相互の深みを際立たせる"Pyramid Song"、"No Surprises"を憂鬱の影で塗り潰したような"You And Whose Army？"、ジャジーに煙るアダルトな雰囲気の終曲"Life In A Glasshouse"など、とどまることを知らず新たな表情を剥き出していく、バンドの底知れぬポテンシャルをまざまざと見せつけられた秀作。

2001年発売、Radioheadの第5作。
『キッドA』と同じセッションから生まれ、2001年5月リリースの『アムニージアック』は、エレクトロニック・ミュージックのテクスチャーとノイズの完全なコントロールでリスナーの感覚を完全にコントロールするという彼等の世界を完成させたアルバムだ。

四方八方から繰り出してくる計算し尽くされたノイズのジョブは見事な異次元を構築し、トム・ヨークのファルセットがいつも中心に流れている『ワールド』を作り上げた。

最高傑作。
