初めてD.チェリー(cor、etc..)の作品に触れて以来、その自由な発想と言うか、形に捉われ過ぎない表現の面白さに惹かれています。
難しい事を考えてこの音をカテゴライズしたりアナライズしたりするのも(誰がやるのかは別にして)意味のある事だとは思います。しかし、本作('69年作)で繰り広げられている音には(個人的に)不思議な程"安らぐ"ものを覚えます。
異国の、それもどこかプリミティブな文化の中で音楽が意思表現の重要な手段として重宝されているなら、こんな音楽になって表出するのかも知れない、と一種のファンタジーとして捉える事も満更不可能ではないのでは？と考えたりします。陰鬱さもお祭りの騒々しさも、全て詰まっているような感じさえ受けます。
ハッキリ言って、全体を聴き通す事はそれ程楽ではないかも知れません(^^;それでも、乱打されるdsや妖しく響くガムランに、何だか鳥の会話を聞いているような各種のリード。意外な程美しいpのメロディに、ずーっと妖しいg(^^;などなど。
それら全てが一丸となった音の塊には、この人たちが一途に音を作り出している事の真摯さが滲んでいると思います。
私とてまだ４、５回位しか聴いていないひよっ子ですが、先ずは門前払いされなかった事に感謝し(？)、本当の面白さが見つけられる次のステージ(？)に向かいたいと思います。

68年作。
彼の吹くポケットトランペットが、
抽象的で捉えどころのない軽やかさと
浮遊感をともなっている。
そんな空間の拡がりをうまく表現した集団即興演奏。
さらにサウンドエフェクトとしての
土着的な民族楽器（ガムランのコンガ等）
を加えることで独特のチェリー・サウンドに！

ソニー・シャーロック（g）、アルバート・マンゲルスドルフ（tb）、ヨアヒム・キューン（p）など参加
チェリーの音楽ってどこかテクノやトランスに
繋がるとこある.
Part2で、途中うるさいばかりに鳴り渡るガムランがなんとも新鮮であり、
その後ヨアヒムが奏でる過激性を帯びた物悲しいソロが心に響き渡るし、
この作品で聴かれるようなポップさと過激性の混じり合いこそ民俗音楽をモノにした
ドン・チェリーの音楽の醍醐味だと思う
