　1978年にリリースされた4枚目、衝撃的だったファーストから余裕を感じさせるセカンド、そして新曲を含んだ超絶技巧実演作品といったライブのサードの次にリリースされたのが本作だった。本作では、パーカッション担当のモーリスパートの曲がアルバム容量の半分を占めており、モーリスのカラーが今まで以上に前面に押し出ている。このモーリスの作曲した曲が個性的で、特に「デッドリーナイトシェード」では先の読めない曲展開とメンバーの演奏能力を最大限に引き出すようなインタープレイに圧倒させられる。「ブラックムーン」はブランドXとしては珍しくメロディアスな曲で、意外な印象を受けた。「アースダンス」ではモーリスパートの奏でる打楽器の音が賑やかかに挿入されており、曲も親しみやすい内容になっている。プロデュースはロビンラムレーが担当している。当時ロビンラムレーはビルブラッフォードの「フィールズグッドトウミー」のプロデュースを手がけているが、打楽器の繊細な音をクリアに表現する技術が本作でも生かされている。本作の「ポーク」や「アクセス」などで聞けるジョングッドソールのギターや「ゴースト」聞かれる超絶ベースなど利き所満載の作品、「プロダクト」「ドウゼイハート」と並ぶ完璧な隙のないアルバムとして高く評価している。

ライブを挟み、７８年に発表されたオリジナルとしては３枚目のアルバムです。メンバーに若干の変動があり、フィルコリンズ、ロビンラムリーが抜け、ｄｒにチャックパーギー、ｋｅｙにピーターロビンソンが加入しています。また、ｐｅｒのモーリスパートが３曲提供しているのも特長でしょうか。
とはいえ、彼ら独特の妖しげで浮遊感のあるサウンドは健在で、ＢＲＡＮＤＸのこれまでのアルバムが好きな方には、十二分に楽しめる内容になっています。パーシージョーンズの変態的ベースが、このバンドの根幹をなしているといってよいのは、従前通りなのですが、このアルバムでは、グッドサルの、結構ロックしたギターが活躍しているのも注目かと。そのおかげか、幾分、聴き安めの曲が入っているのも特徴だと思います。
何れにせよ、Ｘらしさが充分堪能できるアルバムです。

1978年カリスマからリリース。彼らの4thアルバム。ロビン・ラムリーとフィル・コリンズが抜け、ピーター・ロビンソンがキーボード、チャック・バーギーがドラムとして参加している。前者二人は急がしすぎるという事か・・・。で、音が退化したかというとさにあらず、むしろ僕はこのアルバムと『プロダクト』の音のまとまり感は今までよりも好きかもしれないと思ってしまうくらいレベルが高く素晴らしい。

特にモーリス・パートは3曲も曲提供し(3-5)頑張っている。パーシー・ジョーンズの超絶技巧ベースを筆頭に超ハイレベルなインター・プレーの応酬攻撃満載で口が開きっぱなしになるアルバムである。

聴いていて創り出される音の空間が違うのである。腕に覚えのある音の猛者たちに是非とも聴いて欲しい。
