ＧＣＳのアルバムはどれも陽気で楽しく思わず踊りだしたくなるようなものばかりです。それはやっぱり、ワイルドでパワフルなラリーグラハムのベースのおかげでしょう。スラップベースをフューチュアーしたファンクミュージックは星の数ほどありますが、ラリーグラハムのパワフルなプレイの前ではどれもかすんでしまいそうそです。洗練されたフュージョン系のスラップベースに慣れていた私にとってラリーのぶっとくて、武骨なサウンドのベースプレイは新鮮で衝撃的でした。田舎に住んでいたため中々アルバムを入手できなかったとはいえ、こんな楽しくて素晴らしい音楽を聴かずに過ごしてきたことを悔しく思ったものでした。で、「ＧＣＳでどれが一番好き？」と言われたら、とても難しいですが、どうしてもこの作品になってしまいます。何故かというと、やっぱり名曲「ＰＯＷ」が入っているからです。ファンク系のチョッパーならこれさえあれば十分とういうような感じのかっこいいベースが聴けます。この曲のベースフレーズが好きな人はたくさんいるかと思いますが、私も大好きです。基本的にスラップベースというのは好きではないのですが、ラリーグラハムは別です。洗練された軟弱なチョッパーベースしか聴いたことの無い人は是非聴いてみてください。きっと元祖のすごさを思い知らされることでしょう。それと楽曲の方もミディアムテンポのメロウなものから、ゴリゴリのファンクまで充実してますので単純に良い曲が聴きたいと思っている人にもお勧めです。

チョッパーをするベーシストはたくさんいますが
このネトネトしたグルーブを出せるのはこの人だけじゃないでしょうか

前作まではグラハムセントラルステーション名義でしたが
このアルバムからラリーグラハム＆セントラルステーションになり
良くも悪くも
ベースの音量があがり
楽曲もよりグラハム中心になりました
アルバム全体でいうと今までのものからすると
だいぶクオリティは落ちていると感じます

ただ、一曲目の「パウ」、これはすごい
曲間に各パートのソロまわしがあるんですが
グラハムのチョッパーソロが凄まじい
何故かベストなどにはこの曲は全然入ってないので
このためだけにこのアルバムを購入する価値はあると思います

このアルバムの1曲目、POWを聴いてみてください。
必死でコピーしようと試みたが、まったく無理でした。
ラリー・グラハムのチョッパーベースが唸ります。
