calling youのカバーで一躍有名になりましたが
その、ストリングスアレンジが入っています。
個人的には、ストリングスアレンジなしの方が好みでしたが
上質な質感の布に包まれたような聞き心地は健在です。

オリジナルを歌うJevetta Steeleと聞き比べても面白いと思います。
（同じ歌なのに、
Jevetta Steeleは「荒涼」とした欠乏感みたいなものを感じ、
Holly coleは上品な中にもちょっと「狂気」が含まれた感じで
全然違います。）

オリジナルナンバーの「ネオン　ブルー」もオススメです。
歌詞を見なくても、メロディーと歌い方で景色が目に浮かぶよう。
夜の街を、淡く照らす青白いブルーのネオンライト。
とーっても孤独で、冬の夜中に１人で聞くとハマります。

　ホリー・コールは1963年生まれのカナダ出身のヴォーカリストで、特に日本で人気がある人です。ジャズ・ヴォーカルに分類されていることが多いですが、実際には古典的なジャズのようなリズムで演奏された曲は殆どありません。ファースト・アルバムではハンク・ウィリアムスを取り上げ、4作目はなんと全曲トム・ウェイツ作品だった事などを思えば、むしろシンガー・ソングライターを意識しているのかもしれません。
　作り上げる音楽は、ヴォーカル・ピアノ・ベースを主体としたシンプルな構成で、やはりオーソドックスなジャズとは一線を画すコンテンポラリーな内容。例えばタック＆パティのような方向を向いていると思います。声は女性としてはかなり低く、艶があり、どこか毒（というか狂気）を感じさせる部分もあり、好き嫌いは分かれるかもしれません。
　このアルバムは1998年発表のベスト・アルバムで"Girl's Talk"(90), "Blame It On My Youth"(91), "Don't Smoke In Bed"(93)までの3作品を中心とした選曲になっています。ちなみに1,2は新曲で3,11は再録音曲です。人気曲"Calling You"のストリングスを加えた再録音ヴァージョンや、エルヴィス・コステロが日本にファンの多いことを意識して録音したと思われる、コステロの代表曲"Alison"を収録していることが話題になりました。
　今では初期の作品群はどれも中古で安価で入手できるので、敢えてこのアルバムを買わなくてもいいような気がします。少なくとも初期の3作はどれもアルバムのカラーがあり、しかもなかなかの佳作と思いますので。

このＣＤは私の思い出のＣＤで、一番のお気に入りです。彼女の深く透き通る声はとても魅力的です。このアルバムの中の曲はどれも好きです。一度聞いてみて下さい。
