カエターノ・ヴェローゾとジルベルト・ジル、盟友二人による名デュオ作。あの“トロピカリア”から２５年経った続編という位置付けなれど、アニバーサリー的な安直なムードは皆無。この作品に至るまでの二人の歴史や時代はとても短いスペースで書ききれるものではないけど、とにかく現代のブラジル音楽界を代表し、かつては文字通りの共闘関係にあった二人のデュオだけに中途半端なコラボレーションに終わる筈もない。手練れの仕事でも無く、ノスタルジックな息抜き的な作品でもなく、ただただ現在もなお最前線で活動を続ける二人が若手のアーティスト／エンジニアたちとも真正面からコラボレートし、真摯に取り組んだ結果の才能の結晶であり、“トロピカリズモ”のスピリットが未だ健在である事も示してる。凛とした１曲目から引き込まれ、後にカエターノがプロデュースしたジョアン・ジルベルトの『声とギター』でカバーされたラスト曲まで、心地よいテンションと美しいハーモニーが味わえ、もう堪えられない内容だ。何年経っても色あせる事のないマスターピースだと思う。全ブラジル音楽ファン必携・必聴作。

1968年の問題作「トロピカリア」の1993年における一つの回答が
この「トロピアリア２」である。

軍事政権に伴うブラジル動乱の時代、
自由を求めて起きたトロピカリスモ。
ジルベルト ジル、カエターノ ヴェローゾ、
ナラ レオン、ムタンチス、ガル コスタ。
その結束を物語るかのようなジャケットの「トロピカリア」。

そして、25年の月日を経てカエターノ ヴェローゾとジルベルト ジル
によって作られた「トロピカリア２」

既に軍事政権は崩壊しトロピカリスモのムーブメントも終結していたが
音楽としての主張の強さはこの作品においても強く感じられる。

一曲目の「ハイチ」などはその極みで、
単なる奇を狙ったヒップホップ調の音作りとは全く違う。
完全にブラジルナイズされている。

思想の波は時代を超えて受け継がれるということを
感じさせられる音である。
