最初のデュオ（共演）だった、Undercurrentから4年経過し、表面的な印象はいろんなところでレビューされているように、「前作に比べてくつろいだ雰囲気」なのであるが、それはあくまでも表面にすぎない。
この二人のことである、そんなハンパな演奏はしていない。

ピアノとギターという同じ撥弦楽器（弦をはじいて音を出す）である関係上、同じ音階の音は似た音色に聞こえる。しかも両方とも和音が出せるため、演奏上最大で16音同時（ピアノは両手で10音、サスティーンペダルは考えず。ギターは6音）に出せる。ということは、和音であればそれなりに鑑賞にたえる音になるが、ジャズのようにテンションを多用している場合、不協和音のぶつかり合いや不要な音の重なりなど聴くにたえない音になってしまう。
それをこの二人はメロディーとバッキングの巧みな役割分担、フレージングの工夫、音数の制限、そしてトラックダウン時の音量とバランス調整（これはミキサーの仕事であるが）によって、みごとに上質の音楽に仕立てあげている。これは高度な演奏技術と卓越したセンスがあってはじめてできることであり、ハンパではできない。

でも、リスナーである僕らはそんなことは気にせず、くつろいだ雰囲気でふたりの音楽を楽しむことができるのだ。あー、なんという幸せ。

最初のジム・ホールとのデュオ作「アンダーカレント」は二人が お互いの演奏に触発されながら緊張感と燃えるようなインタープレイが聴ける名盤中の名盤だけど、その４年後、同じジム・ホールとのデュオ・アルバム「インターモデュレーション」から溢れ出すこのくつろぎ感は、一体何なんだろう？ ピアノとギターがまるで互いに、優しく想いやる大人の恋人達の深い会話のようにも聞こえてくる。

1966年の発表、ということはエヴァンスもジムホールも30台のはず。ところがこのジャケットのイラストによる二人の枯淡の境地はどうでしょう？老けている事では他人のことを言えた義理ではないがこの元ＮＨＫ鈴木アナとテズカオサムのローソク男のようなイラストはあんまりだ？しかしながら、この二人が組んでもけっして若々しくならないのは自明のこと。大人の音楽です。内容はアンダーカレントの再演、しかしジャケットの美しくなさ（コレはコレで好きだけど）が災いしてかイマイチマイナーですね。だけど、息詰まるようなやりとりが少し疲れるアンダー~に対して、もう少し余裕というか、落ち着いて聴けるこちらの方がワタクシはお気に入りなのです。心なしかこちらではジムホールが抑えめでエヴァンス度が高い、にもかかわらず明るめのメロディを持つ曲を選んでいる。エヴァンスというとどうしても苦悩とか不幸のイメージを抱いてしまうけど、このアルバムはそんなエヴァンスを包み込むようなジムホールの甘くない優しさのようなものを通わせてくるのです。
