　サントリーホワイトを飲んでいても、このレコードを聴いていると、オールドのまろやかさを感じた。
　JAZZが好きだったのだけど、リッキー・リーのレコードとスティーリー・ダンのレコードだけは、欠かさずに買った。
　だって、聞き飽きないんだもの。
　「パイレーツ」は僕の２０代に聴いたレコードのベストレコードであります。
　ブラッサイの「lovers」をジャケットに使ったセンスといい、田舎者の僕にとっては、遠く思いを馳せる都会の喧噪を背景に、心にしみじみと利いてくるのでした。
　バックミュージシャン達がもの凄い。ｽﾃｨｰｳﾞ･ｶﾞｯﾄﾞ、ﾗﾝﾃﾞｨ･ﾌﾞﾚｯｶｰ、ﾃﾞｲｳﾞｨｯﾄﾞ･ｻﾝﾎﾞｰﾝ、ﾄﾑ･ｽｺｯﾄ、ｽﾃｨｰｳﾞ･ﾙｶｻｰ、ﾁｬｯｸ･ﾚｲﾆｰ、そんでもってﾄﾞﾅﾙﾄﾞ･ﾌｪｲｹﾞﾝまで。
　もの凄いメンバー達に脱帽！！

この人のプロダクションパターンはスタジオビッグネームを総結集させて予算かけまくりなおおがかりなもの（３０人以上が参加）。デビューアルバムでクリティカル面そしてコマーシャル面でも成功した本物シンガー。ロード詩人であるスタンスをキープしつつ、ポップ、ジャズ、ロックの要素を感じさせる作り。８１年にリリースされたとは信じがたいアルバム。今聞いても古くは感じない。リリックの面でもボーカルのフレージングでも非凡なものを発揮している。シグニチャーサウンドがやはりタイムレスだ。１０点中８点

　デビュー２作目にして、傑作といえる作品。１曲１曲のクウォリティーの高さは、他のレビューにも書かれている通りです。といっても、シングルとしての売れ筋的な曲はありません。彼女の他の作品にも言えることですが、アルバム全体としての統一感と空気感が作品としての芸術性を高めています。抑え目の、それでいて、計算されたピアノ中心のアレンジが彼女のボーカルと相まって、抒情詩的な世界を作り上げていると思います。
　冒頭の「We belong together」のイントロから、聞くものは、その世界に引き込まれてしまいます。「Living it up」や「Skeleton」、「Pirates」、「A lucky guy」へと続く彼女の歌声が孤独な心に響きます。この作品は、やはり、自分と向き合うことの多くなる秋の夜に聞くのが一番です。よい作品というものは、時代の流れに色あせることなく輝き続ける作品であると思います。
