【アーティストについて】
1973年にNYで結成され翌74年アルバム『地獄からの使者』でメジャー・デビュー。歌舞伎からヒントを得たと言われる奇抜なメイクと派手なショウなど徹底したエンタテインメント性、一方で親しみやすいポップなハード・ロックという音楽性が相まって大成功を収め、70年代を代表する世界最大級の人気ロック・バンドに登りつめる。その後何度かのメンバー・チェンジやメイクを捨てた素顔での活動を経ながらロック・シーンの第一線で活躍し続け、96年には遂にオリジナル・メンバーでメイクアップをした"KISS"として復活!復活後のツアーは世界各地で話題になり大きな成功を収めた。

極めてシンプルなロックンロール。つまりライヴを意識した音作りというわけだ。タイトルナンバーのラヴガンをはじめとして、何曲ものライヴの定番ナンバーが収録されていることはご存じのことだと思います。このラヴガンというアルバムは、恐らくリアルタイムでキッスを聴いていた人にとってはキッスそのものという存在なのではないでしょうか?某国営放送でやった武道館公演、私も当然みましたよ! TVにかじりつくようにしてね。ラヴガンは確かその日本公演の後で発売されたんじゃなかったかなぁ。そういうわけで生でみた人もTVでみた人もこのアルバムは夢中で聴きまくったってわけだ。リアルタイムでメイク時代のキッスを経験していない世代がこのアルバムに対してどういう感想を持つか非常に興味深いが、とにかく理屈抜きで楽しめるアルバムなのでぜひ楽しんで聴いてください。

　初期の三作品のシンプルなロックンロールから、「地獄の軍団」「地獄のロックファイヤー」ときてこの「ラヴガン」がキッスと言うバンドの黄金期の一応の完成を意味するアルバムではないか。このあとはディスコ的な「ラヴィンユーベイビー」などヒットはあるが方向性が散漫になっていき、メイクをとったりなんとなく失速していく方向になる。
　いい意味でのマンネリ予定調和のバランスが一番いいのがこのアルバムの頃ではないだろうか。コスチュームもリニューアルして、いままでリードヴォーカルをとったことのないエースが「ショックミー」を唄ったりして変化はつけているのであるが、本質的には直前2作の延長線上にある。でもこの安心感が当時は嬉しかった。

予約だけでプラチナレコードになった、バカ売れ作品。自分も子供の頃予約して買いました。
全体の泥臭さいロックが、なんともＫＩＳＳらしくて楽しいです。

エースの初ボーカルの「ショックミー」、タイトルチューン「ラブガン」、アンプラグドでやってくれた大好きな「プラスター・キャスター」。最高にのれます。スタンダードでビーチボーイズもやった「ゼン・シー・キスト・ミー」も嬉しい！
楽しさって意味で星５つ。これぞＫＩＳＳ。
