学生の時、久々にスティーヴィーのアルバムが出ると聞いて、さっそく買って、やたらと聞きまくった覚えがあります。もうWinwood/Jenningsの組み合わせではないから、歌詞とかも今までと違うし、曲もRoll with Itを超えて遥かにものすごい頑張ってる感じでした。つーか本人、ギター持ってる写真あるし。ジュールズ・ホランドのショウに出たときは齧りついて見たなあ。ギターがかっこよかった。ソロというよりバンドという形を重視したようなところもあるし、Desreeなんかとのデュエットが面白すぎたりするけども、こういうネアカにハシャギ回ってるようなアルバムも一枚くらいあっていいんじゃないの、と思う。何を言われても何回聞いてもSpy in the House of Loveのギターが大好き。自分もフェンダーで何度も真似しようとしました。スティーヴィーはハモンドだけではないのです。

作品のレベルは恐ろしく高いのに、作品ごとに宅録とゲストバリバリを使い分けるスティーブ。ジャケット見ると「宅録か・・・」と思いがちだけど、これがまたハレハレ全開！スライのファミリー・アフェアのカバーがすんばらしい！ビートが跳ね、エレキは炸裂し、バラードが浸みる。最高です。

　1997年発表のソロ7作目。スペンサー・デイヴィス・グループ〜トラフィックは好きですが、これまでソロ作品をを聴く機会がありませんでした。このたび、ジャケが気に入ったこの作品を購入してみました。
　エコーの深いヴォーカル・女性のコーラス・上品なピアノやハモンドが印象的な綺麗かつ上品なサウンドで、良いように表現すると「都会的」な作品です。リズムの取り方も鋭くソウルフルで「お、さすが」と思わせるところが多々あります。ただ、正直言うと曲が平凡です。ネットでこの作品を罵倒するような文章を見たことがありますが、まあ確かにトラフィックを期待して定価で買うとそんな気分になるかもしれません。Steve WinwoodまたはAORの好きな人向けで、60年代のサウンドを期待して買うと肩透かしを喰らう一枚、といったところでしょう。
