5.0 out of 5 stars ヒット・チャートでも目茶目茶売れた、スーパーバンドのデビューアルバム, 2003/8/18
　このファーストアルバムがASIAの最高傑作であろう。曲はコンパクトなものの、密度は濃く、またアルバム全体の緊迫感も充分漂っている。もちろん、プログレファンにも十二分に満足できる作品になっている。（ある意味、当たり前か・・・）次作「アルファ」では、よりPOPになっていってしまうし、３作目の「アストラ」ではギターのスティーブ・ハウが抜けてしまうし、挙句の果てには一時解散状態になってしまう以降の活動状況を踏まえても、デビュー作にしてピークなのである。（このアルバムの完成度も非常に高い）

　キング・クリムゾンとイエス（バグルスもいるが）とELPというプログレ御三家のメンバー（中心人物ではないものの、それぞれバンドの核をなしていた）の集合体だけあって、その期待もさることながら、それに充分応えている所がまた凄い。サウンドもYES（スティーブ・ハウ？）色が一番あるように感じるものの、ウェットン色も濃く（ウェットン節がソロ作より薄くて良い）、またカール・パーマーの激しいドラムも紛れもないELPにおけるドラミングなのであるが、これが実に絶妙にブレンドされており、３つのバンドの寄せ集めのサウンドでは決してなく、ASIAとしての個性が充分に発揮されているアルバムであると思います。（キーボードのジェフ・ダウンズのセンスも良し。）
　アルバムジャケットも壮麗で美しいです。

これほどいい作品を、なぜ世間は｢産業ロック｣と評したのでしょうか？
確かに以前から存在したKing CrimsonやYesのような純プログレ的ではなく、大衆向けみたく感は否めませんが、全体的に聴くと非常に完成度の高い作品に仕上がってます(メンバーは元King Crimson、Yes、EL&P中心ですけど)。
発売時に全米チャート１位を１０週も保持し続けたのを考えると、彼等の実力が伺えます。

結成当時からしばらくは、Aで始まりAで終わるタイトルにこだわるなど、バンドとしてのこだわりを見せて活動していました。誰もが超一流であり、そこから出てくる音は緻密で素晴らしいのですが、やはりこのアルバムの衝撃が凄かったと思います。１曲目でたたきのめされた人が多かったはず。ジャケットを見て、yesの復活を期待した人には、期待以上の内容でした。
