この本を持って、スイス・フランス・スペインの旅をしました。スイスで3ヵ所、フランスで2ヵ所、スペインで4ヵ所のユースホステルに泊まりました。旅の ほとんどです。(日本人があまり行かない場所ってことでしょうか)写真が載っていないユースホステルも とてもきれいでしたし、信用できる情報ばかりです。とにかく安く何都市も見て回りたい!!という人や、計画を立てずに旅をしたい人に おすすめです。

この本のことは９７年２月に朝日新聞読書欄今月のベストセラ−１位になったときに知り、すぐ買いにいきましたが、売り切れで地方のYH協会に一冊だけあったのを送ってもらい、危うくヨーロッパ一周に持って行けましたので良く覚えています。

空港や駅からYHまでの行き方が手描きの地図入りで詳しく載っていて、全く迷わずに最短時間でYHに着けてすごく重宝しました。YHではコピーさせてと大変な人気者になれました。今でも本屋では売り切れのことが多く、幻のガイドブックといわれているようです。

YHは郊外にあることが多く、バスや地下鉄での行き方が難しいです。特に英語の通じない国で、この本なしで旅行したら、迷い放しだったかもとゾッとします。地球の歩き方、ロンリープラネット、トーマスクック時刻表とならんで４大名ガイドブックと呼ばれているそうです。YH中心に回る人には必携です。
