著者からのコメント

「デザインのたくらみ」は約四年間もの時間をかけて雑誌PENで書き続けた続けた連載を単行本にまとめあげたものです。いま「デザインのたくらみ」を書き終えて考えることは、「百聞は一見にしかず」という言葉の真逆の作業であったということです。デザインを視覚に頼らずに説明することはある種の矛盾があります。つまり写真が一枚あれば伝わることを敢えて1000文字以上のテキストで表現するのです。
しかし実はこの作業は意外に面白いことにも気がつきました。つまり見たとおりだけではなく、資料を集め考え、そしてそのデザインに潜む意図を発見する楽しみも多々ありました。またテーマが立派なときには、意外と文章が面白くないことも、あらたな発見でした。ちなみに、「爪楊枝」や「駅弁」など、普通のデザインの目線からはとるに足らないものが意外と評判が良かったテーマです。

もともと雑誌PENが大好きだったので、デザインのたくらみもいつも楽しく読んでいました。今回、本になって改めて読んでみて、普段何気なく生活していると気付かないけれど、デザインのたくらみはいろんなところにあるんだな〜と思いました。デザインのことについて良く分からないという人でも楽しく読めると思います！

penで連載の時に何度か読んだ事があったので、思わず購入。
デザインにうとい私でもなるほどふむふむ、と楽しく読めました。
豆知識としてどこかでお披露目できるかも（笑）
何より、イラストがかわいい。最初に挿し絵を見て、内容を想像して、コラムを読む。
そしてまたそのイラストを改めて見て、そういう事か〜と感心して。
私流のこの本の楽しみ方でーす。

Penでずっと連載されていたものですね。このコラム大好きでした。
イラストがカラーで、すごくきれいな本だと思います。
と、思ったらデザインが原研哉さんらしく、なるほどと思いました。
内容、デザイン、イラストと、どれをとってもクオリティが高く久々の良書という感じでした。
