著者の林典子氏は、子供のころからあらゆる動物を飼い、
大学の獣医学科入学の際には、「高齢動物の臨床」という、
志をもった、臨床獣医師として非常に信用できる獣医師である。

この書物は林典子氏の翻訳であるが、
日本よりずっと進んでいる欧米各国での高齢ペットを
どのようにケア（飼い主に負担無く、ペットとしての
機能を失わないようにするということ）を
翻訳者自身の経験をもとに、
日本人にもわかりやすく翻訳表現されている。

これはもはや、林氏の著書ともいえる書物で、
いかにペットロスを軽減するかの示唆に満ちている。

専門書であるにもかかわらず、安価なのは
広く動物を飼う人が買いやすい価格を意識した、と
伺っている。

答えはひとつではない。
飼い主それぞれの希望を汲みつつ、
臨床獣医師はいくつの選択肢を持っているか？
それは押し付けでもなく、放任でもないことを、
林典子氏は、動物を飼う人に福音の書を翻訳してくださった。

非常に中身の濃い書物である。
