　本書は会話型RPGダンジョンズ＆ドラゴンズ第4版の2冊目のガイドブックになります。冒頭のフルカラー商品リスト＆プレイ風景の写真に続いての「駆け出し冒険者の戦術指南」では、パーティの組み方、必要な能力、それに、基本的な立ち回りの戦術が例題付きで解説されています。
　次のリプレイは、これまでの3ヶ月分の内容を加筆してまとめた物で、傍若無人な人外トリオの言動や、本格的な技能チャレンジの運用例二つ、そして4版らしい洋上での決戦から、TRPGの醍醐味である冒険の後、それに丁寧なレベルアップ風景などが収録されており、これ自体が魅力的なD&D第4版の冒険例となっています。
　それに続いては、サンプルPC付きの基本クラスの能力値振り分け、成長方針、特技解説と実践的な種族解説です。どちらも今後のサプリメントまで踏み込んでの解説で、初心者には目から鱗の記事だと思われます。
　最後のトリを飾るのは、技能チャレンジに関する解説です。長期にわたるチャレンジや時間というリソース、副次技能などの要素と技能チャレンジ用技能表というノウハウやツールに加えて、実践的なガイドラインと具体的な技能チャレンジのサンプル二つが収録されています。正直、リプレイや無印付属のシナリオに興味がなく、実践的なD&D4版のガイドブックを求めるのであれば、無印を飛ばしてこちらだけでも、と言えるほど購入価値があるガイドブックです。

冒険のセオリー、戦術の基本、キャラの作り方が初心者向けに親切。
以前のよくわかる本に欲しかった、クラス解説と種族解説、レベルアップの処理についても解説されている。
4th特有の技能チャレンジに関する処理や解説も複数追加され、
リプレイに興味がないＧＭ、プレイヤーにも一読の価値がある本。
ただし、値段に見合っていない内容量と言う人がいるかもしれない。
