小説家、文芸批評家。1915年、岐阜県に生まれ、2006年、東京に没した。東京帝国大学文学部卒。42年に応召し、北京で敗戦を迎える。46年に復員。明治大学工学部で英語の教鞭をとった。55年に、「アメリカン・スクール」で芥川賞受賞。主な著書には、『抱擁家族』(谷崎潤一郎賞)、『私の作家遍歴』(日本文学大賞)、『別れる理由』(野間文芸賞)などがある(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)
