料理について勉強したいけど、学校に通うようなお金も時間もない・・・そんなときに図書館で出会ったのがこの本でした。
「調理台や冷蔵庫のスペースをあけておく」「鍋はよく熱しておく」・・この一見かんたんな事を「なぜそうするのか？」をきっちり説明してくれて、納得させてくれます。
料理の方も、たくさんの調味料を使ったりしないで（料理によっては使うこともありますが）ごくシンプルな味付けです。
シチューは市販のルゥを使うよりもあっさりして美味しかった！
結局2回ほど借りた後、購入しました。

料理だけでなく生活の仕方にも影響を与えてくた本です。

食材の切り方、下処理のしかたから、道具の揃え方・選び方、キッチンの使い方まで網羅してあります。写真もたくさんで、下手な家庭科の教科書よりも充実してるんじゃないかと思います。これ全部を忠実にマスターしたら、かなり料理のできる人になると思います。
正直、「理想のキッチン」を作れる家から欲しくなりました（笑）

とにかく、「独学で料理ができるようになりたい、でも小難しいことしか書いてない本はイヤ」という人に向いてると思います。

レシピの写真が大きく作り方の活字が小さいので、ざっと眺めるだけで終えてしまいそうですが、その小さい活字を見落とさないでほしい。著者が実にていねいに料理の基本をおさえた説明をしています。どのレシピも簡単で美味しいものばかりですので気軽に作ることができ、おのずと料理の基本を身につけることができそうです。
