別に猫を飼っているわけでもない、飼うつもりも無い、むしろ犬派。

そんな私が所用で本屋に行き、猫や犬のかわいらしさを全面に押し出した写真だらけのペット本コーナーに混じったこの本の、変な題名、変な背表紙にふと興味を示し、買って読んでしまったところ、猛烈な猫派になってしまいました。

猫大好きな人向けのふわふわした子猫のかわいらしい写真なんかは、ドライな性格の私は見たとたんに顔をしかめて舌打ちするほど嫌いだったのですが、(別に猫は嫌いでもないけど、その手の写真がありふれていて飽きるほど見てしまったためにうんざりしてしまったんです)今は「なんてかわいいんだろう」と相好を崩してしまうほどです。

猫に関するユニークな話がちりばめられた著書は、その内容を生かす必要が無くても、単純に読み物として楽しむことができました。

経済的、時間的、その他もろもろの猫を飼うため必要な余裕ができたら、猫好きの母に猫を飼ってあげて、いや、この本に従って拾ってきてあげて、一緒に飼いたいと思います。

この本を猫の飼い方マニュアルと思って読んだ方はちょっと違うと感じるかもしれません。この本はひょんなことから生まれたばかりの猫2匹を抱えて生活するはめになった著者が実体験と取材に基づいて書いた猫飼い情報本。
読み物としても面白いので、おすすめします。

生まれたばかりの子猫をひろってしまったら？とか、なさそうであるかも知れない事態への対応など、他の本には載ってない話がいろいろあります。猫の入院の是非を述べたくだりは考えさせられる。
猫の飼い方本らしくない装丁も○。
