この著者は、小学生向けの算数の良書をたくさん出している方で、この本もお薦めできます。
この本では、「見える力」と「詰める力」といった話を中心に、小学生の能力（思考力）を伸ばすための指針を保護者向けに解説しています。また、児童用のブラッシュアップドリルもついています。
内容的には素晴らしいと思いますが、すこし使い方が難しいと感じます。まず、自習書ではないので、子供に渡して自分で勉強させるという使い方には向きません。むしろ、親子で一緒に見ながら考えるのに向いた内容なのですが、ページ・レイアウトの関係で、そういう使い方もしにくいのです。（問題の見開きページに、保護者向けの解説文が記されていたりします）
このあたり、問題を手書きで書き出すなど、若干の準備が必要になるかもしれません。

また、タイトルには「小４からの〜」とありますが、４年生だけがターゲットという訳ではなく、高学年でも楽しめると思います。じっくり考えさせる問題がそろっていますので、ノルマを決めたり根を詰めたりせずに、例えば週末ごとに１問ずつ、親子で知恵を絞ってみるのも良いのではないでしょうか。
