私は、荻原規子さんの原作「西の善き魔女」を読んでおもしろかったので、漫画ではどうなるのだろう、と思って買ったのですが･･･。
原作ではフィリエルは最初からたくましく強い少女だったのです。
それが、漫画では乙女系に変わっていてげんなりしました。(内容も少し変わっていましたし･･･)
だんだん成長していく設定にしているそうですが、原作の大ファンの私にとってはちょっとつらかったかな、と思っています。

　　まず背景がほとんど書かれていません。小さなコマでちょっと背景を書き、それに続くほとんど全てのコマに背景を書きません。登場人物だけが書かれ、強調されます。普通はオープニングでどんな場面でどんな背景の場所なのか雰囲気作りをしますが、そういうセオリーから自由な構成になっています。また、登場人物がほぼ全員、ドラマチックに「演じ」ます。悪くすると、常にハイテンションで切れかかった精神状態が連続しているように見えます。原作は人物ももっとずっと落ち着いていて、情景描写も丁寧に行われます。漫画では雰囲気や描写の方針が原作とは大きく異なります。

二人の作者はおろか、原作の存在も知らなかったのですが、タイトルに惹かれ、絵が綺麗だったので即購入しました。
物語は剣と騎士ものではない、ファンタジーもの。
２歳の時に母を亡くし、研究に没頭する父ともあまり会えず、おじさんとおばさんの元で暮らすフィリエルと、父の研究助手ルーンの物語です。

あとがきで作者が画力について謙遜しているのですが、はっきり言ってこれだけの絵が描ける人はメジャー誌にもあまりいないのでは？

原作は知りませんが、大きな物語の導入であろうこの巻収録の内容は、『ラピュタ』ばりの冒険ファンタジーの王道的展開ながら、しっかりと読ませます。

一読ファンになってしまいました。続刊も買います。
