この本が出た当時、この種の現代文ワード集は皆無だった。せいぜい難語とその意味を羅列したものくらいしかなかったと思う。当時の受験生の多くはひたすら解法ばかりに目を奪われ、自分の読解力の無さが語彙の欠乏によるものだと気付いていなかった。私も解法だけを解説する問題集をひたすら解いていたが、模擬試験などになると文の意味が良くわからず、眠くなって、悲惨な点数を取っていた。そんな時に高校の国語教師が教えてくれたのがこの本だった。私は自分の読解力の無さが語彙力の不足によるものだと気付き、この本を英単語集を覚えるように何度も何度も繰り返し読んだところ、センターの評論で満点を取り、結果的に志望の大学に合格した。

この本の優れているところは、「具象」とか「抽象」とか「合理主義」のように詳しい説明を必要とするものと、「嚆矢」や「残滓」のようにただ意味と読み方さえ覚えれば良い単語を分けているところである。これにより、小さな本ではあるが得るものは非常に多い。「詳しい説明を必要とする単語」の説明は辞書的な意味の羅列ではなく、読解の上での注意点や頻出テーマとの関連、周辺のワードとの類似や対比などの説明にも力を入れている。この本が出てからこの種の現代文ワード集は数多く出版された。しかし、現在でもこの本がベストだと思う。ちなみにこの本で学んだことを実際の読解でも生かせるかどうか確かめたい人は、朝日出版社のMD現代文小論文の６６３ページからの「入試問題キーワード」の問題を使うと良い。

現代文で高得点を取るには、知識の量が物を言う。本書では読解をする上で必要な用語の説明をし、それを暗記させることを主としている。確かに、現代文に頻出の用語を暗記すれば、かなりの得点ＵＰにつながるだろう。私も今まで苦手だった現代文が本書のおかげで得意科目になった。
　下手なテクニックに走るより、まずは知識の定着を図ることだ。

現代文を理解するには、論理的思考力は重要ですが、
語彙、特に評論文特有のキーワードについて知っておくのも非常に重要です。

こうしたキーワードについての参考書は数が少ない上に
ここまでしっかりしている本も中々ないので貴重な一冊と言えるでしょう。


キーワードの意味のみならず、評論文で頻出のテーマについての詳しい解説があるのも
ありがたい点です。
こうした背景知識について学ぶのも読解の助けになると思います。

また、この本に記載されている言葉は漢字の読み・書き問題として出題されることも多く
漢字の勉強にあまり時間をかけられない人は、せめてこの本だけでもマスターすると
違ってくると思います。
