　こんな本をずっと探していた。
　私は子供の頃からダムが好きで、しかしそのような趣味を持つ者は周りにまったくおらず、完全なマイノリティーと自身決めつけていた。
　しかし数年前、とある深夜番組（Tクラブ）で「ダム〜男の建造物〜」という特集がやっているのをたまたま見て
「おおっ！！オレ一人じゃあなかった！」と興奮していらいダム熱が再燃焼。以来各地のダムを回ったり、そしてその姿を自宅でも見れるようこのような写真集をずっと探していた。
　ダムに惹かれるのは何故かー
　やはりその雄々しさではなかろうか。
　男の建造物とはよく言った。
　ダムはある意味、破壊的であり、暴君的であり、そして孤高である。
　自然の山奥に、突如巨大なコンクリートの壁が出現するのである。
　巨大なコンクリートの壁ーーこれは堰堤とよばれる。
　この堰堤こそがダムの肝である。
　堰堤から下を見下ろしたときの絶望感、また下から見上げたとき胸にせまるあの圧迫感はなんであろうか！？
　それは高所であるから。というモノでは無い。
　ビルやタワーのてっぺんから下を見下ろすのとはワケが違うのである。
　膨大な水量を一身に支え、微塵もゆるがないその峻厳たる姿の裏には、時に見せる放水という火山の噴火の如き爆発力を秘めている。
　この本は色々なアングルからのダムが見られるので、臨場感という部分ではかなり良い。
　ただし掲載量が少ない。まあ、その分値段もおさえられていて買い易いが、、。それと著者のダムへののめり込み方が余りにサラッとしてて説明文やコメントなどが少し物足りない。それで☆を一つ減らさせて頂いた。
　是非続編を期待したい。

すごい本です。ダムというものが人間のすべての建造物の中で、比較を絶してエモーショナルなものであることが、よくわかりました。日本各地のダムをめぐり、その美しい構造といくつかの決定的瞬間をよく捉えています。そしてダムについてまるで無知な者にもよく飲み込める、ダム知識とダム体験への手引き。自然破壊の元凶みたいに考えられることが多いダムですが、もちろんそれはものごとの一面にすぎない。一方ではたしかに人の生活を守っているし、人が作る構造物としては最大、そこには崇高な（畏怖を覚えさせる）美があります。宮ヶ瀬や黒部の壮大さはいうにおよばず、南相木、笹流、驚異的な摺上川など、いったいなんという世界でしょう。アイヌの聖地に作られた二風谷の、工夫し抜かれた魚道は、「破壊」と「開発」の前線をうかがわせ、考えさせられます。巻末の「ダムに出かけてみよう」「ダム用語辞典」もすばらしい。この列島に住むかぎりだれもがどこかで関わっているダムという特異な「場所」を、よく意識に浮上させてくれる名著が生まれました。

ダムのすばらしさを余すところなく伝えてくれる一冊。
とても魅力的な写真はもちろん、ダム初心者の為のダムの構造説明から
ダムめぐりについてやダム用語辞典等盛り沢山の内容です。

ダム好きはもちろんのこと、まだダムに興味ない人達にぜひ読んで頂きたいと思います。

私は非常に勉強になりました。
