出勤前、帰宅後にふと、自分を振り返りたいとき、自分を元気にしたいとき、何か言葉が欲しいときに本を開き、そのとき開いたページの野村監督の言葉を読むとよい。
スポーツが好かれるのは、やっぱり人生に置き換えられるからだと思う。だからこそ、どん底と栄光を経験した野村監督流の言葉に重さが感じられる。

野村監督の言葉は深くて重い。
短くシンプルな格言集は、ダイレクトに心に響いた。
２０代のときは気付けなかった言葉が、経験や思いを経て、心で理解できたのだろう。
人の目が気になる性格だが、この言葉に救われた。
「３５歳を超えて敵がいないということは、人間的に見込みがないことである」
「うまくいっているときは、周りに人がたくさん集まる。
だが、一番大切なのは、どん底のとき、誰がそばにいてくれたかや」
嫌われることを恐れず、勝利と野球界のために真摯な野村監督。
その強さの裏にある孤独や優しさ、夢の大切さを実感できた書。
「黙っていたら分からない。短い言葉でも人を感激させ、感動させることができる。
まさに”言葉は力なり”」
うーん、言葉は人を傷つけるけど、勇気もくれる。

「リーダーとはこうあるべき」と、短い言葉の中に凝縮した野村監督の思いが直に伝わる。長々と書かれた文章を読むより、すーっと頭に、心に入ってくる。リーダーシップ論というだけでなく、人生において参考になる言葉の羅列に、さすが読書家・勝負師ノムさんと思う。読み進むほどに好きでもなかった野村監督が不思議と好きになってしまった。
