のっけから間抜けな教師の「フランス、アルザス、フランス、アルザス」で笑わせてもらいました。全編この調子でディテールがいちいち凝っていて且つイヤミがきいていて、そのディテールのまま話が軽快に転がって行くのでとても愉快に読め、あっというまに読了してしまいました。「天使」あたりのやや重い文体とはまた違った味があり、楽しめます。

作者特有の理屈っぽさと、饒舌さと、スノッブな語り口が
冒頭から爆発する問題作。
「観念的な戦争」とでも訳そうか、
その独特の世界観は好き嫌いの分かれるところだろう。

しかし作者のヨーロッパを舞台にした作品群を読んでしまっているだけに
舞台が日本だとどうもしっくり来ないのは私だけか。
本書の後半、ほんの短い部分にヨーロッパの場面があるが
どうもそこが一番生き生きとして見える。
