鈴木 力衛
1911‐73年。1936年東大仏文科卒。1937‐39年日仏交換学生としてパリ大学に学ぶ。帰朝後、アテネ・フランセ講師をへて、1950年学習院大学教授。この間、東大、慶大、早大、明大等の講師を歴任。モリエールを中心とするフランス文学・演劇についての著・訳書多数。1958年岸田演劇賞受賞。第6回(1969年度)日本翻訳文化賞受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

『ダルタニャン物語』？と首を傾げる方も、三銃士の名前は聞いたことがあると思います。
本書は騎士道華やかな頃のフランスを舞台に繰り広げられる、剣と恋と冒険の傑作ロマン歴史小説です。

三部構成になっていて、若き銃士達が活躍する「三銃士」、その続編の「二十年後」、さらに続編で有名な鉄仮面の挿話を含む「ブラジュロンヌ子爵」で成り立っています。
長いようですが、鈴木力衛氏の絶妙な翻訳（本書で翻訳文化賞受賞）に引き込まれ、あっという間に読了してしまうのではないでしょうか。

ただし、本書『友を選ばば三銃士』から『鉄仮面』に至る長いダルタニャンの物語は、途中で間延びする記述も若干存在します。これは作者のデュマが、一行幾らで収入を得ていたため……と寛大な
気持ちでお目こぼしくださいませ。

今まで三銃士のことは知っていてもきちんと本で読んだ事はありませんでした。何か三銃士について1冊買ってみようと思い、検索したところ、たまたまこの本にいきつき、原作を購入できたことをうれしく思っています。このダルタニャン物語というのはアニメ三銃士の元にもなったものだと思います。昔みたアニメが懐かしくなり、購入してみたのですが、アニメと同じところも違うところもあり、原作は原作としてとても楽しませてもらっています。読むのに1ヶ月くらいはかかるだろうと思っていたのにすぐに読んでしまい、次のを注文。実話に基づいた話だと言う事でそこからルイ13世やリシュリューについて調べたりというはまり具合です。この本を読んだらいろんなことが知りたくなりフランスのマニアになってしまうかもしれません。

別の「三銃士」単行本を読んでからどうしても、その続きが読みたくて、見つけたのがこの「ダルタニャン物語」でした、本当に最高です。11巻もありますが一気に読めました。笑いあり涙ありで、4人の友情なんかうらやましい限りでした。同じアレクサンドル・デュマ署の「モンテクリスト伯」もお薦めです！とにかく面白いです！
