現在、ドラマ「名探偵モンク5」が放送されていますが、オリジナル小説の第2弾です。
不思議な連続殺人事件が起こり、警察のストライキがあり、急遽、市長の命令により、モンクが警察に復帰し、部下ができる事に。
その部下がいわくつきの面々で、部下をまとめるのも大変なのに、さらにいろいろな事件が降りかかってきます。今回は、全く異なる事件を少しずつ解決していく、様子がおもしろく描かれています。

連続絞殺事件の他にも何件か殺人事件が起こって若干複雑です。でも最後はすっきりと解決させています。

臨時警部に就任したモンクについた部下の３人が３人とも個性的で面白い。
なかでも笑えたのはしょっちゅう陰謀説を出してくるシンディ。
モンク含めて誰も「妄想だ」と言わない辺り、みんな優しい。

３人ともちょっと逸脱した人たちですが、それぞれ役に立っているし一応仕事はできる人たちのようです。
個性的すぎてぶつかり合いそうなのに、似た境遇だからか不思議とまとまりが。

個人的に気に入ったのは買い物と、食事に行くシーン。
親子の何気ない会話からモンクが閃くところがいいです。

気になったのはモンク（は全然気付かなかった）に誘惑めいた微笑みを向けた女性警官。
ナタリーの勘通り、本当に気があるのかどうか。
もしかすると、このシリーズの別の話で絡んでくるかも？
いずれにしても二冊で終わらず、他の話も翻訳してほしいです。
