タイトルと美しい表紙の絵、挿絵の可愛らしいアナグマにだまされてはいけません。
動物好きの読者は安易な気持ちで手に取り、
読み始めてすぐに当てが外れたことに気づくことになるでしょう。
ただ、悪い結果を生み出す誤解ではありません。
読者の心にしっかりとした「何か」を残す物語となるでしょう。
これは実話を基に書かれた、つまりアナグマの側から見た受難の日々の物語。
突然の大殺戮。
それに対するアナグマたちの自己犠牲と勇気、愛と別れ、希望と絶望。
そんな物語。
人間の社会の縮図のようなアナグマたちのコミュニティ。
執拗な人間からの襲撃と殺戮。
著者と訳者の絶妙なコンビネーションが、この美しい物語を
ドラマチックではないかもしれないけれども、静かな深い感動を
含んだものに仕上げています。
