　ラカンを読むのは難しい。独特の数学的な概念のせいなのか、最初から翻訳などすることが無謀なのか。「エクリ」を三ページほど繰ってみよう。解説書もなしに、自分の力だけで読み解けるだろうか。だからといって、世にあふれる解説書におもしろ味が欠けているのも実情だ。

　そういう意味では、本書は優れたラカン入門となっている。＜他者＞＜現実界＞＜対象ａ＞といった独特の概念が、ジジェクの映画分析を通じて、わかりやすく説明される。同時に、解読し尽くされたと思われていたヒッチコック映画に、ラカン分析の立場から新たなる光が当てられる。どちらも見事で、ただただ舌を巻いてしまう。

　それだけではない。「斜めから見る」というタイトルからも推量できるように、一見、ジジェクは高次!精神分析を使い、低次の大衆文化（映画や推理小説など）を読み解いているように見える。しかし、ジジェクはそこまで高慢ではない。あるときは映画に精神分析の理論を補填させ、あるときは精神分析の方に推理小説の結末をなぞらせるなど、自在に軌跡を描く。その考えてみると、本書はジジェクの思考を追う絶好の書でもあるようだ。

ラカンを知らないで、いきなり読んでも理解できないかもしれない。私は今まで、日本で出版されているラカン入門を数冊読んできたが、どれもいまいちしっくりこないものばかりだった、<現実界>、対象ａ、享楽など。
そういういまいち「しっくりこない感」がこの本でいくらか解消された。

しかし、<現実界>とか対象ａとか、ラカンの専門用語が普通に使われているので(勿論若干の解説はあるが)、少しくらいなじみがないと読むのがきついかもしれないです。
