仕事イヤイヤ病でつらかった時，仕事メンタル系の本を書店に
探しに行ってこの本を見つけ購入した。この本はイヤイヤ病を
直すために心のキズを癒す本でもなければ，自己啓発転職を
ススメル本であるはずもなく，コンセプトが相当異なる本だ。

「このつまらない仕事を辞めたら、僕の人生は変わるのか」
「自分は何をするために生まれてきたのか」「自分の幸せとは
なんなのか」その問いに本書は解答しない。そもそもそんな問
いに万人への普遍的な解答などあるはずもない。解答を見出す
のは自分自身である。本書はその問いに対して50人の人生の
有様を見せつけ，読者に対して「では自分はどうなのか」と考え
ることを促す，いや著者自身が考えた奇跡なのかもしれない。

少なくとも書名のような迷いを感じていない人生を送っている
人には1900円を払う価値も無い本であるかもしれない。が，
そうでないなら一読の価値ある本であると断言する。

1つだけ不満をいえば，本であるがための宿命でどうしても登場
人物がどこか華のある人物ばかりになってしまっている。
(しょうがない...でも50人のような人生を送ってるのは3%といないのでは?)

「What Should I Do with My Life？（人生で何をすべきか）」が原題。
このタイトルとは全然意味が違うし、このタイトルに惹かれて読むと
失敗したと感じるかもしれない。

さて、人生で何をすべきか？･･･内容は、それなりに深い。この本には
30~50代で、大きくキャリアチェンジした人、未だに何をやりたいか
分からない人、過去の栄光を引きずっている人、などなどいろんな事
例が出てくるが、みんな壁にぶち当たって、もがきながらも自分探し
をしている人達の話が中心である。何をもって成功であり失敗である
のかは、結局本人次第なのだと感じる。

アメリカの事例中心であるが、日本と違って、40代以降でも、努力次第
では大きなキャリアチェンジが可能であり、その点は国としての懐の広さ
を感じると共に、日本の労働環境の現状を嘆かざるを得ない。

仕事について、人生についてとても参考になりました。
また、原文を読んでいないので分かりませんが、翻訳がとても美しく訳されていて読みやすかったです。
夢をあきらめられない人、仕事に情熱を求めた人、家庭を大事に人などタイプ別に分類しているのも非常によかったです。
