5.0 out of 5 stars 創作であっても感動させられた男の半生, 2005/5/29
原作は1953年に書かれたもので、南仏プロバンスの荒れ果てた高知に一本づつ木を植えていく男、エルザール・ブフィエはヘブライの預言者、賢者というイメージのようです。物語としても素晴らしいのですが、フレデリック・パックの絵も素晴らしい。大人向けの絵本という感じです。アカデミーの短編映画賞を受賞したアニメーションも素晴らしい作品でした。架空の話ですが、舞台となったプロバンスに行かれた新井満氏の「世界・わが心の旅」でしり、この本を買いました。また、このブフィエの精神に共感して、失われた森を再現するべく、毎日、一本づつ木を植え、訪問者がいたら、その人にも一本を植えてもらうことを実践しているアニメーターがいるそうで、いまや荒野だった地がいまや森となっています。世の中には凄い人がいるものです。この物語は、それほど人の心に訴えかけてきます。

私は最初この作品をアニメーション映画でみた。とても雰囲気のある画風でストーリーもしっかりしており、強く印象に残った。
この本に出てくる名もない羊飼いの男は人間の何たるかを教えてくれる。
古今東西の全ての人々がこの男のような心の美しさを持っていたら、どんなにかこの世界は平和だろうかと思わずにはいられない。
人生に迷ったとき、社会に迷ったとき、自分に迷ったときこの本を開いて欲しい。きっと心が癒されるはずだ。
この本はまさに心のサプリメントである。
一家に一冊常備しておきたい本である。

環境保護的に利用されることも多い短編アニメーションだが、それだけでなく、この本はひたむきな人間の行為がいかに尊いものかを教えてくれる。度重なる困難に打ち負かされそうになりながらも、木を植えるという本当に地道な行為を何十年も続けた一人の老人。その超人的ともいえる精神力と忍耐力は、人間はいかに生きることができるかという本質を突いているように思われる。ジャン・ジオノの文章は事実ではないが、事実以上の真実を含んでいるような気がする。
