この本を読んだ後、すごく生きることの素晴らしさを学びました。授業中に転落してしまい首を強くうって全身麻痺してしまった。生涯ベットの
上で過ごさないといけなくなってしまった星野さんですが、決して飾らず、自分の気持ちを素直に書くところに感動しました。星野さんの作品

を見た方は、彼の作品はすばらしいことをご存知だとは思いますが（とても口で筆を加えて書いているとは思えません）詩もすばらしいです。
この本を読むと更に彼の伝えたい絵の意味が理解できるはずです。老若男女問わず、是非人生に一度は読んでほしい一冊です！！

25年程前、バスを待つ間に入った小さな本屋で、たった一冊棚にあったこの本（初版本）を、「深き淵」という言葉に惹かれて手にし、購入しました。
当時の私はまだ若く、拒食症や不条理な人生、自分も含め欺瞞の多い人の心に悩み、挙句死ぬことに失敗し、結果一生治らない病気を抱えることになり、苦しんでいました。それでも、病気になったお陰で、それまで見ているようで何も見ていなかった沢山の幸せの種にようやく気づくことが出来、神はある、再び何かを信じて生きてみたい、と思い始めキリスト教会に通うようになった矢先でした。
そんな時にこの本に出会いました。
自分の心の中の闇も光も全てを、ひたすら正直に、ひたすら真摯に書いた魂の記録とも言うべきこの本を読み、深く共感、共鳴しました。
特に絶望の果てから光を見出す辺りはとても感動しました。
人は自分で生きているのではなく大きなもの（それに名を付ければ「神」になるのでしょう）に生かされているんだ、と感じ始めていた私に、大きな愛の力で行く道を照らしてくれました。
聖書と共に私に深い感謝を教えてくれました。
困難の中にも歓びがあることを、生かされていることの喜びを教えてくれました。
聖書と分かち難いほどの、私にとってはとても大切な本です。
もうボロボロになって来ていますが、昔と変わることなく今も本棚で輝いています。

　星野さんは、思いがけない事故で怪我をして身体が不自由になりました。
　入院中から、唯一動かすことができる「あご・くち」を使い、ガーゼで巻い
　た筆を口にくわえて絵や詩を描いています。

　以前、偶然彼の描いた絵を見たとき、なんだか心にグサッときたんです。
　詩と絵が一体となって…。まさか口で描いた絵と詩だなんて思わなかった。

　それがキッカケでこの本を購入しました。軽い感じでね。

　いきなりの事実にハッとします。身体が不自由で、絵も詩も口にくわえた筆
　で描いているということに。

　読み進むうちに、星野さんの周りを取り巻く人達や母親へ愛情や感謝が、
　その詩で表現されていることに気づきます。

　星野さんは、自分には大きな絵を描く力もなく、
　細かい描写もできないと言います。

　詩も、詩と言えるものでもなく、
　「自分の心の中」をただ表現しただけだと言います。

　ただ心の中を表現する日々。

　そんな中、絵や詩を見た知人が、生まれて初めての展覧会を開いてみないか
　と持ちかけます。

　小さな小さな展覧会を。田舎の小さな身障者センターの「廊下」で。

　知人のどうしても開きたいという熱意に負けて、
　描きためた「スケッチブックの絵」に「詩」を添えて展示しました。

　おっかなびっくりで開いた、生まれてはじめての…
　小さな小さな「廊下での展覧会」は予想を超える反響を呼びました。

　感動の涙を流すひとたちで狭い廊下はいっぱいになりました。

　廊下の隅に置かれた大学ノートは、感動のメッセージが書き綴られました。
　驚くことに・・・ぎっしり４冊も。

　怪我をした最初のころの詩には、人を憎む表現、うらやむ表現があります。
　そして、すこしずつ、母や友人への感謝へ表現が変化する。
　ココロの変化が絵と詩で伝わってきます。

　せっかく会いにきてくれたのに手を振ってお別れの挨拶ができないから…
　舌を出して左右に振って心からの感謝を表現します。

　絵の大きさや鮮やかな色彩などではなく、
　親しい人への愛や感謝をまっすぐ詩や絵にしているということが、
　見た人のココロを動かすようです。

　ひとの「弱さ」と「強さ」が、素直に表現されると、
　それを見た人は、強く心が揺り動かされるのかもしれませんね。
