史学科の教授にすすめられて買いました。受験生あるいは大学生以上の人には概説書として量も質も適切だと思います。高校の時の教科書よりも内容が詳細ですのでこれ一冊で日本史は一通り勉強できます。

日本史に興味あるけど、「日本の歴史」等のシリーズ本は冊数多いし
とりあえず１冊で古代から現代までの基本事項をフォローしたい。
でも、高校の教科書レベルじゃちょっと物足りないので、
若干詳しいとこもふれられているもの・・・
そういう方は、迷わずこれがオススメ。あくまで教科書、参考書風いで

さすがに大上段での「学説史」まではないが、さりげなく学説動向も
加味していて冒険してるところもある。関心部分をみっちり読めば
ドラマや映画の背景もかなりわかるでしょう。五味氏の中世史がやはり
面白いかな。値段的にもお徳かも。

一般向けの日本史概説書は他社からもいろいろと出版されているが、この本はその中でも高い総合得点を与えられてよい一冊だと思う。

「単に高校の教科書を厚くしただけ」といった批判も聞くが、私はむしろ、限られたスペースに日本史を論じ、考えるために必要な知識と流れを、周到な配慮の下に詰め込むことに成功した執筆人の力量を高く評価したい。図版を多用し多色刷りとしたことで、ビジュアル面でも親しみやすい。

「歴史認識」が外交まで左右する時代だ。巷でも歴史談義は盛んだが、単にイメージや思い込みで喋っているような議論に出くわすことも少なくない。

変に「右」でも「左」でもない、一つの明快な座標軸として、ぜひ手元に置いておきたい一冊だ。広く学生・社会人にお薦めします。
