遭難記や闘病記は読んでいてどこかに安心感がある。生還しなければご本人は書けないので生きて書いてくれたのだろうなあ、という安心感である。お笑いキリングセンスの萩原正人氏の移植手術を知ったのは爆笑問題担当深夜番組。そこで、この本を知った。文体が主観に走らず簡潔で軽快なのでどんどん読める。日米医療の患者に対する違いは必読。術後の朝食でステーキを平らげなければアメリカで患者はつとまらないらしい。途中日記が挟まれる(ネットからの引用)。話は違うが最近読んだ本の中にやけにネットから日記を引用している。これでは本は売れないだろうなあ、と実感する。移植について新聞のエラソー記事を読むより、この本の方がよくわかる。

この本を読む切っ掛けとなったそもそもの理由は、爆笑問題のラジオ番組でのプレゼントコーナーで当ったからという消極的なものなのですが、これだけ濃い内容だったら、自分で買って読んでも損はなかったです。海外移植の報道がされるたびいつも疑問に思ってた費用の捻出方法、移植までのプロセスなど患者の立場から細かく書いてあるのでわかりやすいです。またベタベタしたやさしさではなく、大人のやさしさをもって著者をサポートし続けた太田光は芸人としてだけじゃなく人としてもすごい!と改めて思った本でした。

人間の“強さ”命の“強さ”、生の偉大さが感じられました。読み終わったときに胸の中に新しい活力を抱きました。
臓器移植については色々な世論がありますが、これを読んで受け止め方が何となくプラスの方へ傾いた感じがします。
とても読みやすく臨場感もあり、中学生や高校生、小論文で悩んでいる学生さんにも読んでもらいたいです。
