　かつて「小林秀雄のモーツァルト論」の呪縛から我々を解き放ったくれた高橋悠治の文章を、久々にまとまった形で読めるのは至福の一時である。
　散文詩や箴言集のような文章が多すぎるという感も否めないが、贅肉をそぎ落とした文体は、現今の「感動中毒現象」の対極にあって小気味良い。
　音楽に限らず、日暮れて道遠しと思わざるを得ないことだらけの世界ではあるが、あきらめずに前進を続ける著者の活動には勇気づけられる。
　私的な事情で、約３０年間行ける限り聴いてきた演奏に接する機会は当分望むべくもない状況にある者だが、著者の活動が刮目に価するものであることは言うまでもあるまいと思う。

高橋悠治の本というと今ではほとんどが絶版・品切で手に入らず、古本屋では八千円とかビックリするような値段がついていて買うにも買えません。（やっと最近、それらの本を抜粋してまとめた本がでましたが。）この本も数年前に雑誌に連載されて以来、ネット上でしか公開していなかった文章が、ようやく単行本化されたものです。あいかわらず滋味深い内容は時代を感じさせない凄みがあるので、品切れになる前に、「まずは買う」ことをおすすめします。

この本を読んで高橋悠治氏が社会主義思想を強く抱いてる人物であると分かった。作品の多くの箇所に現代社会への憎しみがとって読める。あとがきにおいては「ソ連崩壊後、世界はなお悪くなった」と書いている。社会主義の夢を未だに見続けている人間は、現代における価値観をすべて否定するしかできないでいる。
