　フェルドウスィー作『王書』から『サームの子ザールの誕生』、ニザーミー作『ホスローとシーリーン』『ライラとマジュヌーン』『七王妃物語』が、美しいミニアチュール（細密画）の挿絵とともに紹介されています。相思相愛の男女の一方が、突如狂ってしまうことから起こる悲恋の『ライラとマジュヌーン』は、肉親の愛情も含めてどこかしら仏教的哲学的な内容に、シェークスピアの『ロミオとジュリエット』とは違う、東洋の神秘を感じさせました。
